Three days, hand-picked

The Jungle Expert is not a sampler platter — it is the itinerary our owner would put together if they had three mornings in the Mayan jungle and wanted to show someone exactly why cenote diving built this region’s reputation. Seven guided cavern dives, all in our Premium category: one Premium triple day at The Pit and Dos Ojos, then two more Premium mornings pairing sites that each have a personality strong enough to stand on its own.

No reef boats, no ferry schedules — just the underground world that makes the Yucatán unlike anywhere else on earth. Stalactites frozen mid-drip, sunlight cutting through water so clear you forget you are wet, haloclines that blur the world like heat shimmer on a road, and the quiet satisfaction of diving well in delicate overhead environments. Multi-day savings are already built into the price.

This is the package we recommend when you have already done a cenote day or two elsewhere — or you are an Advanced diver who knows why you came to Mexico — and you want the hits, not the warm-up.

What each day typically includes

The itinerary below is our usual plan for this package. Cenote operations depend on private landowners, seasonal access windows, and conditions on the day — so treat this as the blueprint we work from, not a rigid script. If anything needs to change, we will talk to you before it happens.

Day 1 — Cenote Caverns (Premium triple) at The Pit and Dos Ojos

Explore freshwater underground caverns in the Mayan Jungle

Summary

Three cavern dives at The Pit and Dos Ojos — the combination we save for divers who are ready for the full show. The Pit delivers the iconic shaft of light, halocline effects, and the cloud layer at depth that people photograph for years afterward. Dos Ojos follows with two distinct cavern lines — typically the Barbie line and the Bat cave — where wide passages, sunbeams, and crystal water make it easy to understand why these sites built the region’s reputation. One dive in The Pit, two in Dos Ojos: three tanks, one long morning you will not forget.

Day 2 — Cenote Caverns (Premium) at Angelita and Dreamgate

Explore freshwater underground caverns in the Mayan Jungle

Summary

Two cavern dives at Angelita and Dreamgate — a deliberate contrast in mood and geology. At Angelita you descend through clear freshwater to the surreal hydrogen-sulfide layer and the ghostly tree branches suspended below it, a profile that rewards calm, controlled diving. Dreamgate is the cathedral answer: expansive chambers, intricate formations, and passages where your dive light picks out detail in every direction. Together they are the kind of pairing that makes you glad you booked a second cenote morning instead of sleeping in.

Day 3 — Cenote Caverns (Premium) at Zapote and Maravilla

Explore freshwater underground caverns in the Mayan Jungle

Summary

Two cavern dives at Zapote (aka Hell's Bells) and Maravilla — our northern-zone finale and, honestly, the reason some of our staff fight over who gets to guide this day. Zapote is famous for its bell-shaped formations hanging from the ceiling like something from another planet. Maravilla answers with light beams, delicate stalactites, and profiles that feel both spacious and intimate at once. Both sites sit further from Playa and ask more of your buoyancy and experience; they are worth it. Morning departure only; entry fees paid locally in cash.

Who is this package for?

Advanced Open Water certified divers (or equivalent) with solid buoyancy, recent diving experience, and a genuine appetite for overhead environments.

Every day in this package is Premium — including depth at The Pit and Angelita, and the more demanding profiles at Zapote and Maravilla. Cavern diving here is not about chasing fish; it is about precision, awareness, and the quiet thrill of an underground world frozen in time. If your last dives were a while ago, mention it when you book — we would rather build in a short refresh or reorder your days than send you into delicate caverns before you are ready.

If you are newer to cenotes, or you want a gentler progression that starts in our Standard category, take a look at our Jungle Explorer package first — it builds from Chac Mool through Angelita and Carwash before the Pit + Dos Ojos triple. If you want reef and Cozumel mixed in with your cenotes, our Fuller Experience pairs one Premium cenote day with two ocean days.

Real people, real plans

When you book the Jungle Expert online, you choose a preferred start date. After your deposit is confirmed, our team reaches out to plan your three cenote days around your vacation — and to confirm the site schedule that makes sense for your experience and the conditions on the ground.

Cenotes sit on private land with their own opening hours, entry rules, and occasional closures. Weather, road access, and guide availability can also shift what is practical on a given morning. We may need to adjust the schedule of your dives because of cenote opening restrictions, weather, or availability. We will always confirm any changes with you first, and you will have the choice to cancel for a refund or re-schedule.

If you have specific dates in mind, mention them in the notes at checkout or contact us before booking — we are happy to work around your itinerary.

This package does not force you into a strict cookie-cutter dive plan. Once you book, our team will reach out to make sure the day-by-day progression fits you:

  • If it has been a while since your last dives, we may suggest an ocean day or pool refresh before your first cenote morning so you arrive with your skills where they need to be.
  • Zapote and Maravilla are particularly rewarding on Nitrox — if you are not certified yet, we can often weave the Enriched Air course into the days before or alongside this package.
  • If you have already done The Pit and Dos Ojos on a previous trip, tell us — we can discuss equivalent Premium substitutions within the same package structure where access allows.

If you are not yet certified then take a look at our Learn to dive courses first — or contact us to discuss options.

Not sure this is the right fit? Our dive concierge can help you build a custom cenote plan, or browse our individual cenote cavern trips to compare categories and entry fees.
